Summer Stage School - 8th to 12th August 2022

ALADDIN IN AUGUST?

IT’S A WHOLE NEW WORLD........

We normally think of Aladdin as a traditional Christmas pantomime. But last week, the children of Holt – and the surrounding villages – have been breaking tradition by staging their own musical version of Aladdin in Holt’s Village Hall. It was all part of a week-long Holt Players Summer School for budding actors, run by Characters Stage School of Bradford-on-Avon with professional director Emma Tierney. Seventeen children, aged between 7 and 16, had just five days to audition, learn lines, rehearse the songs and sort out costumes before performing in front of family and friends.

The icing on the cake was the encouragement from Holt’s own pantomime comedian Jon Monie – starring in Aladdin this Christmas at The Theatre Royal, Bath. Jon dropped in through the week to offer advice and tips. And generally join in the high jinks.

Running from Monday to Friday in Holt Village Hall, the five-day workshop cost just £99 per child, including the show at the end, which was subsidised by the Holt Players (normally £159).
